Who is this article for?

Managers and owners who design sellable items and need predictable pricing and recipe behavior

Use variations for named versions of an item, such as sizes with different prices or recipes. A variation holds the sell price and ingredient setup used for that version.

What a Variation Holds

A variation can include its name, Sell Price and recipe ingredients. Stock and hybrid variations also have inventory records by location, with units, quantities and location-specific costs.

Keep the variation's selling price separate from the inventory purchase price. One is what the customer pays; the other is a stock-cost input.

Edit Sellable Variations

Open the item and use Menu Variations & Recipes for a menu or hybrid item. Choose the variation's edit controls, update its price or recipe, then save.

Menu placement uses the item's existing variation pricing. The menu picker can direct you to Edit price on item page because changing that variation price affects its use across menus.

Choose Variations or Modifiers

Use a variation when a named version needs its own price or recipe, such as regular and large portions. Use a Modifier List for optional choices added to an existing version.

Menu items offer Add Variation for additional versions. The hybrid editor is simplified and does not show that button. Stock-focused and service setups expose different controls too; check the item type before expecting the same editor everywhere.
