Who is this article for?

Managers and owners who want the catalog model to match how their products actually work

Choose an item type according to whether the item is stocked, sold or both. The type determines which catalog controls are available.

| Type | Use for | Main setup | | --- | --- | --- | | Stock | Ingredients, supplies and inventory-only goods | Location inventory, units, ingredients and production | | Menu | Sellable items that can consume recipe ingredients | Variations, sell prices, recipes, menus, categories and modifiers | | Hybrid | The same item being stocked and sold | Inventory plus menu-selling controls | | Service | Non-physical charges or services | Pricing and relevant item details without physical inventory |

Create the Appropriate Item

The Add Item dialog offers Stock Item, Menu Item and Service Item. For a stocked item that must also be sold, create it as stock and add it to a menu; Crunch treats the linked record as hybrid.

A menu item's ingredients can consume inventory even though the menu item itself is not counted as finished stock. Keep that distinction in mind when reviewing stock movement.

Review a Hybrid Item

After menu assignment, reopen the item. Its detail page can show inventory alongside Menu Variations & Recipes, Categories and Modifier Lists.

Stock and hybrid items also support Stock take Storage Areas. These split a physical count by area while keeping one live inventory total per location.

Keep Internal Ingredients Stock-Only

An ingredient used in a recipe does not need to be sold directly. Add a stock item to a menu when the actual stocked item should be offered for sale, rather than creating a duplicate record just for placement.
