Who is this article for?

Managers, owners, and team members who organise menus

Create categories to organise menu and hybrid items. Use a parent category when you need a nested structure.

Create a Category

1
Open Categories and choose Create Category.
2
Enter the required Category Name.
3
Keep Parent Category as No Parent (Root Category) or select an existing parent.
4
Choose the Active setting and save with Create Category.

Review the Tree

Open a category to review Basic Information, Child Categories and Assigned Items. Use the child-category controls to build a nested tree.

The category list supports search, status and parent filters, plus sorting. Check the parent relationship when similarly named categories appear in different parts of the tree.

Assign a Category to an Item

Open a Menu Item or Hybrid Item from Catalog Items. In Categories, choose Add Category or Add First Category, then select the category.

Stock-only items do not use this card. Use Stock take Storage Areas for physical counting places rather than treating menu categories as storage assignments.

Category assignments and child menus are separate: a category does not automatically create a menu section.
